"SIGNAL AUTO DRIFT CHALLENGE", HAWAII VS. JAPAN DRIFT COMPETITION, SUPER MOTARD 50cc RACE, AND DONUT CONTEST --- MAY 25, 2003.
The Drift Session, LLC., proudly announces the Signal Auto Drift Challenge, Sunday May 25, 2003 5pm - 10pm at Hawaii Raceway Park.
Signal Auto is a internationally popular chain of automotive performance tuning shops, body shops, and car dealerships with offices in Japan, Korea, and the United States.
Last September, Signal Auto visited Hawaii with their professional drift vehicle, the "Drifter X" and pro driver Fumiaki Komatsu. Hawaii drivers and spectators were amazed at the power of the Drifter X and the skill of driver Komatsu. The sound of screeching tires and the blur of the Drifter X, sliding sideways down the track at over 100 miles per hour, mesmerized the crowd.
This landmark event saw the first use of a professional drift vehicle with a professional driver on American soil. It also served as a unit of measure for Hawaii's drivers who had never seen a professional drifter in action. At the end of the event, local drivers had a chance to compete for the right to challenge Komatsu to a run-and-chase drifting competition. The battle was fierce, but the Drifter X remained dominant throughout the day.
Now, nearly 9 months later, the Drifter X will be returning to Hawaii with its twin sister, the "Drifter XL." Together these identically tuned and styled vehicles are affectionately known as the "Drifter Twins" driven by Fumiaki Komatsu and Kazuya Bai. Both vehicles are hybrid Nissan vehicles known as "Sil-eighties," a cross between an S15 Nissan Silvia and a Nissan 180sx, and both producing over 380 horsepower.
On the streets of Osaka, Japan, the Drifter Twins terrorize their competition during midnight drifting runs through the city's industrial district. As the vehicles make their way to Hawaii, local drivers are preparing for their greatest challenge yet, as they'll be able to once again run head to head with these amazing vehicles.
In addition to the local competition, there seems to be some sibling rivalry as well. The Drifter X and the Drifter XL will challenge each other to a battle of drifting ability, and Hawaii's spectators will be treated to the first ever competition between these two powerful vehicles.
Along with the amazing drifting going on at this event, there will also be the first ever Super Motard 50cc mini-motorbike race. Numerous business, food, and drink vendors will also be set up for spectator's enjoyment. The Coors Light beer garden will also have the Hooters girls on hand to assist spectators with their frosty beverages. And, the ever popular "Donut" Contest will once again fill the air with smoke and send stacks of tires to the trash.
In addition to the event itself, there will be a free, public press conference on Saturday May 24, from 3pm - 5pm at All Star Hawaii. Professional drivers Fumiaki Komatsu and Kazuya Bai will be on hand, along with Signal Auto President Kosuke "The Mad" Kida for picture taking and a question & answer session with the crowd. Drift Session staff and drivers will also be present to discuss the details of the event as well.
