Formula D Championship in Sight as Hubinette Heads Into ‘Final Fight’

    Hubinette’s 2006 Season

Center Line, Mich. — Entering the final Formula D event of 2006, Team Mopar’s drifting star Samuel Hubinette holds a 36-point lead in the chase for the Formula D championship. The “Crazy Swede” can almost taste his second title, but he knows the path to victory won’t be easy with the tough competitors he will face at Southern California’s Irwindale Speedway this Saturday in what is being billed as the “Final Fight” for the championship.

“Rhys [Millen, second in points] is still in this, and I know he’s going to be on top of his game,” said Hubinette. “He wants this championship just as much as I do. Tanner Foust also has a chance to take the title, and there are so many other drivers who are capable of great performances. I know how tough these guys are, so I’m not taking anything for granted. I know I need to stay focused to bring home this championship for myself and for Mopar.”

    Hubinette’s 2006 Season

Hubinette, the inaugural 2004 Formula D champion and runner-up in 2005, began the 2006 campaign with a win at Long Beach in April. He scored a runner-up at Atlanta in May, another victory at Chicago in June, and a fourth-place showing at Sonoma in July. At the August event in Seattle, Hubinette’s NuFormz Racing team, led by owner Shaun Carlson and with help from Seattle’s Maltby Motorsports, swapped a new engine into Hubinette’s Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10 overnight after practice. Hubinette came back to score a hard-fought, seventh-place finish at the event and kept his title hopes alive.

At the last race, the Round 6 event in New Jersey, Hubinette displayed the power of his new engine, qualifying second, taking the win and regaining the points lead. His three wins are a series high, and the “Crazy Swede” will look to carry over the momentum from his Jersey victory to Irwindale Speedway, known as the “House of Drift.”

“We’re going to try to build on our last win and bring home this championship for the team,” said Hubinette, who competes with BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW tires. “It would be so important for me to bring home my second title in only three years. I want to send out the Viper in style, because we will definitely be switching to the Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8 for the 2007 season. With Mopar, NuFormz Racing and BFGoodrich on my side, I feel good about my chances.”

    About DaimlerChrysler’s Mopar Brand

When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts supplier led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Division. In 1937, Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was created for the business of distributing parts through a depot system and car divisional wholesalers.

Mopar made its mark in the 1960s – the muscle car era. Beginning in 1962, Mopar carried a line of “Special Parts” for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

Today, the Chrysler Group’s Global Service & Parts division is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of nearly 250,000 authentic Mopar replacement parts, components and accessories for Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles sold around the world. To assure quality, reliability and durability, all Mopar parts and accessories are designed in strict adherence to DaimlerChrysler engineering standards.
