  • Ben Schwartz to Pilot V8 Saturn Sky

2006 marked an extremely successful campaign to establish the Sears Auto Center brand awareness within the Gen Y and tuner market through our participation in Formula Drift. In 2006, the SAC / Falken car received dozens of pages of media exposure in tuner magazines, including the cover and a 6 page feature article in the December issue of Super Street magazine.

At SAC we strive to continually focus on innovation and 2007 will be NO different. For 2007 we will again partner with Falken Tire to participate in the Formula Drift North American series. Our car for this year will be a 2007 Saturn Sky (pictured).

Gary Castillo from Design Craft Fabrications in California is building the car. He is also the builder of the Falken G35. The new Saturn Sky will have the factory power plant removed and replaced with an LS V8 Corvette engine. The car has been completely stripped, and acid dipped. A custom roll cage and fiberglass hardtop has been built for the turbo charged beast.

This year’s car will remain in the Sears / Falken, blue and white splash color scheme. In addition to the Sears Auto Center & Falken sponsorships we will welcome Craftsman and the new DieHard Platinum battery to the list of sponsors on the Sky. The Sky will run the same Group 34/78 DieHard Platinum battery that is available in SAC stores. The new DieHard Platinum is the most powerful, longest lasting DieHard battery on the market and we want the drifting community to connect Sears Auto Centers with the world’s most recognized brand of automotive batteries!

For the 2007, the Sears / Falken Saturn Sky will be piloted by Formula D veteran Ben Schwartz. The 26 year old from Kentucky was a Ranger for the U.S. Army and has been competing in Formula D since 2004. His aggressive driving and undeniable style has earned him the nickname Ben “Big Smoke” Schwartz.

The Formula D series for 2007 will again have 7 events:

April 7th – Long Beach, CA
    May 12th – Atlanta, GA
    June 2nd – Baltimore / West Virginia
    July 14th – Sonoma / Northern California
    August 11th – Seattle
    Sept 8th – Wall , NJ
    Oct 13th – Irwindale, CA

The start of the 2007 drifting season also marks an exciting time for the Sears / Falken relationship, as we launch 2 new Falken tires into Sears Auto Center. The first is the new High Performance All Season Ziex 912. The Ziex 912 will be available in over 60 sizes including many new Original Equipment applications. It carries a 60,000 treadwear warranty and is landing in stores now. The second is the Ultra High Performance FK 452. The FK 452 will be available in over 30 sizes and is the tire of choice for your UHP plus size wheel and tire applications in 19 through 22 inch sizes. It also covers most staggered fitment sizes needed to run a wider footprint on the rear.

Ben will definately tear it up! SAC is taking the right approach and making sure that the car is dialed in before bringing it out. Makes no sense to bring a car out before it's ready, and possibly wreck it.

Schwartz looked shnazzy in his new driving suit too and the widebody kit is absolutely BEAUTIFUL on the car!

ps - motion to change Ben's nickname from "big smoke" to "big daddy" in honor of his new baby girl congrats mang
