  • Help Out An All Out Newb (ie. me)

    Hi all,
I'm new to this forum as you'd all probably know. I am into cars but I don't know much about engines and whatnot. Neways one of the questions I've always wanted to know is what does DET/DETT stand for as in SR20DET or RB26DETT. I know the T means turbo and TT means twin turbo but what does DE stand for?

d i think is for displacement and the e is for efi (electronic fuel injection)

heres a quick break down with some different nissan engine codes

      KA24DE

KA is the family of the engine

      24 is for 2.4 liters

D is for Dual overhead cam

E is for electronic fuel injection

      SR20VET

SR is the family of the engine

      20 is for 2 liters

V is for variable cam timming

E is for electronic fuel injection

      T is for turbo

      RB26DETT

RB is the family of the engine

      26 is for 2.6 liters

D is for Dual overhead Cam

      E is for EFI

      TT is for twin turbo

      KA24E

KA is the family of the engine

      24 is for 2.4 liters

There is no D or V thus it is a SOHC engine

E is for electronic fuel injection

Make any sense? basicly all nissan engine codes use those letters.. with a few exceptions..

no, I don't own an NSX or S2000, I wish.... but, yes I've got a Civic. I don't drift but I'd like to give it a go. It looks pretty cool and fun.

Well, I don't quite know how to approach you. These questions that you are asking are really basic and I think that maybe you should put them all in one post. Also use the Search feature on this and other sites so that you can find out things without asking. It makes people alot more willing to help you out if you are willing to help yourself.

At least one thing is cool. You didn't do the ol "I'm new, 17 years old and i've been into drifting since I drifted my tri-cycle 4 years ago and I don't have a license either" trick, and then proceed to tell everyone how to do things.. Thank god for that.

Nissan engine codes are easy and practicle.Same goes for some of Mazda's such as the rotaries.Toyota, now that's a different story.

having owned a nissan, and currently owning a mazda, I understand those, and Honda codes seem pretty straightforward, but your comment about toyota engine codes brings about this next question... how the hell do they come up with those letters and numbers?
