Power Steering when Drifting
Hey guys, when i'm drifting about 20-30 mins into the it my steering wheel gets a little funny, like it gets s little harder to turn em. does anyone have noticed or experienced this? is it because of all the hard steering and the steering fluid getting hot? will changing the ps fluid help?

I guess it's possible. I have yet to experience any oddities with powersteering in any of my cars. There may be an issue of overworking the system, don't know. It could just be perception as well. Maybe your arms are getting tires or after an adrenalin rush, you'll feel a little weak. I don't know. If it's not you, then yes you may possibly be overworking the steering system, first I've heard of it though. Just make sure you have your fluid full. If it's low, you may have issues. I'm not to sure how the sideways forces affect it too. The fluid would go to one side, maybe making the system dry for a moment, again not sure, just guessing here. Alieviating this would be to make sure the level is full.
Maybe someone else can help you out a little more. Oh, what car too? The specific car may be prone to certain issues like power steering problems or something. You can check it out at autos.msn.com You can look up your car and check reviews & reliability. You can also search online for anything people have written about it. The powersteering system may just be weak in general. See what you can find out. |

if it's giving you problems, convert it into manual steering
. take all the power steering crap out. it saves weight, makes you stronger, and if your power steering craps out on you, it won't be hard to drive because you are used to it.rock.

Rack & Pin
Well I am runnin' my Sh1t on old Rack And Pins.
Sure power is nice if you need to turn sharp when you are sitting still or going vary slow but like this guy said above there really isn't any difference from Pow Or Pin when you are going Fast. |

I say this from expiernce. When I bought my miata the A/C was busted so they took off the power steering band that is also hooked up to the A/C. I Drifted in it for a long time (well tried to anyway) and believe me it was real hard. I got the hang of it but it took much effort not to kick my car. One day I just thought to myself that how I just dont take out the A/C compressor and hook the power steering directly to the engine. And it worked. Not only is the steering improved a lot but drifting in it is a lot easier. I feel like I can go completey sideways and hold it for a long time with out losing control or spining out. Without the power steering you wont be able to countersteer as fast and that will be hard on your progress. |

meh
I think it depend on what type of car has the Rack & Pin.
My car turns tight as can be where on other cars (even though it's R&P) might not turn as sharp. As for turning the Wheel quickly, Get a smaller steering wheel. You want to get around the wheel quick as possible so you can counter steer. Simple as that Ladies and Germs |
