all right im lookin into gettin my self an 86 and i read on a site that the chassis on them aint amazing so the car cant really handle alot of hp. it said go to about 150 hp because goin beyond that is too much for the weak chassis. do u guys no of any 86s wit alot of hp and no chassis work, just the normal mods. im tryin to consume as much data on this car as possible so your help will be appreciated.

Tsuchiya has an 86 with 165hp.....and it hauls pretty good. in a car like the 86, you dont need tons of hp to make it fast. their weight pretty much takes care of that for you...so 150hp is plenty of hp

i just hit search and couldnt find it but is the 86 one of the more expensive cars to build because of how old it is? the price on them is also goin up cause of the demand.

You would want to do at least MINOR mods to the chassis, example being a roll cage, strut bars, braces ect. The deeper you go the more work needs to be done, more horsepower = needs to be stiffer. 12 point cages can help, spot welding, rivets ect.

dont think you're going to get a lot of hp out of an 86 because it's NOT going to happen. so i wouldn't suggest trying. if you want a VERY reliable source on mostly the 86 although some other cars too go to www.club4ag.com

Indeed, drifting is not about power. And with the weight of the 86 you dont need to much to have a blast. Every driver is different though. And if you want to make a touge runner or something you will probably need alittle more power then the average drifter. After all this isnt initial D, no one just drives hard in one direction.. and around my parts all the good driving roads have plenty of elevation changes up and down in one direction.

Like everyone said, you dont need whole lot of power for Corolla's, 160-180 is more than enough, i am just an power junkie, so i am turbocharging mine, HKS all the way. Go to www.club4ag.com and you will find all info that you need. Here is a little pic of mine

if u really wanted to could do a AE101 or AE111 20V 4AG swap. those have 160-165 hp stock. and then you could work on that to give it plenty of power for an 86. Turbo'ing it is always an option although depending on the turbo it can lag and still isn't as good as pure horsepower.
nice pic dude. your 86 is so nice. |

i'd be weary of pushing more than 150whp from an fr car with such a short wheel base, it's going to get squirly when you try to get sideways

20V's probly sell for like $750-900? probly $800ish to be more exact. not exactly an easy swap though. i'd suggest having a professional shop do the swap just to be safe.
there are lots of 86's always for sale on http://forums.club4ag.com go to the For Sale section. |

---My buddy Rob built a 500ps turbo 4AG Trueno Hatchback. the chassis held up nicely without a rollcage or strutbars. the only problem he had was trannies and diffs, so he upgraded to a Supra tranny and diff. Car was nicknamed the "GTR Killer", if you`ve lived on Oki, you will know the car
