you should list pick ups too. you can find an old mazda b series for dirt cheap and swap in either a 1.8 from a miata or use a rotory from an rx7.
nissan pickup with sr20dets and toyotas with a 4age or 3sge. |

Do not list pickups, if a few guys who know what they are doing want to work on specalty drift pickup thats fine, but we should not endorse the idea that a pickup is a good beginner drift car. I rather see domestics named.

blue book on an fc $4.5k? are we talking the turbo II? i just picked up an n/a fc with some decent mods for $2k by the way i wouldn't reccomend an fc if you're afraid to turn a wrench, it's a great car and i love her, but she's cranky at times, i think i finally got the car running consistantly but that took a while and some cash, so if you're looking to add performance mods to it off the bat you may consider another option because the first step will be fixing what the previous owner neglected, although i'm sure this is true on any older car you'll get

I was just reading about the Conquest/ starion being drift cars.
Conquest TSi(starion) year:83-89 make: Chrysler(Mitsubishi) KBB:N/A but i know you can pick them up dirty cheap Weight Dist: (front/rear)54/46 Engine: OHC 2.6L turbo charged 4 cyl Intercooled Hp stock: 175 Tq stock: 210 ft/lbs The only flaw is be prepared to wrench on it a bit...and if you can, find 88-89 rims with the 16x8 fronts and 16x9 rears ...they are great cars just tend to understeer a bit...i am still working on a good setup for mine Josh |

There are several reasons i wouldnt sugest a pickup for beginners or the list. For one. How many people drift pickups? very few. Thus making it kindof hard to put on a list about vehichles used in the sport. And why a pickup wouldnt be god for beginner. They are heavy. there suspension is tuned for comfort and suspension travel, not response. They dont nessisarly have good weight distributions. Most are tall, especialy full sized trucks. Tall means a high center of gravity, makes it alot harder to drift when your vehichle is trying to roll over.
Yes we have all heard stories of the guy who drifted his pickup. Or the guy who won the road race in a truck. But i do not suggest some 16 year old getting into the sport, and driving in general, go and take his dad's pickup up a moutain or to a track. |

yea, using a pickup is a bad idea, leaf springs are not a drifters friend. Even if you are talking about a small B2000 mazda or something, it just isnt a good idea.

Let me sum the perfect Drift car up in one sentence.
The perfect Drift car is the one that you want to Drift. Thats that. Yes some are better than others but in the end it boils down to personal preference. Same with suspension set-ups. One mans treasure is another man's trip into the trees. I like my FD, my friend does not like my FD. He likes his 86, I like my 86. It all boils down to what you want out of a car. So while this list gives the most common cars, it does not include them all. If your car is not on that list and you Drift it and love it, great. Keep it up. I personally want another Rotary Pickup. I loved that thing. Factory 13 with Rotary Power stamped in the tailgate. Life just didn't get no better than that. Plus after 4 days of changing my FD engine, I want something a little simpler.
