Gripe over D1 technique judging style
After watching JDM Option 5 and 6 i've come to be pretty disgusted with Orido, Tsuchiya and Suzuki's newfound judging styles. What happened to the good ol days when hanging the *Censored**Censored**Censored* end out in the dirt and bringing it back was a good thing. Now it's just you have to follow the exact line they are looking for. I hate it when it's biased like this. I wish they'd just watch they run and judge it from there on how stylish and maybe how UNIQUE the drift is, not on how well they followed the line. Thoughts?

in my point of view im kinda disgusted because D1 has gone to comercial....if i was a judge, i will be judging like the real street or touge drift battle is....
- speed of entering. - angle of the drift. - and overall control.... |

The racing line is very important. It shows your knoledge of driving. Anyways, it's not hard to figure that out, but to predicably make your car drift that line is a whole different story right? Anyways, their judging is very biased on the cars they personally like also. Gotta love judges that are prejudice. |

I wish they'd just watch the run and judge it from there. not have a zombie line brain. No one wants to see cars hitting the same exact line over and over again. That's why I love Nomuken. His drifting is so unique

Remember, D1 isn't the only series out there... I believe Yokohama/Advan has a series too, and I've heard that has better judging. Check out the link for "Advan Drift Meeting" midway down the page on this link, under the D1 link.
http://www.advan.com/dft/index.jsp D1 *becoming* commercial? Dude, that was it's purpose. Unless I am mistaken, D1 was created by Option video to sell videos. |

Actually, the Advan Drift Meeting is just a Qualification match for D1.

ahh... then it must have been another drift competition I was told about then. I remember someone saying that the judging was better in another series, but the Advan one must not have been the one. Thanks for the correction!

I like the way D1 is technical about line. They at least tell you what the line should be. Then its up to the drivers to stay on that line while going fast. Its not easy, you can tell by the amount of drivers that do not stay on that line.
I also like they fact that they usually make the line difficult to be on, usually over a bump, just one wheel off, or next to a wall. Keeps the competition exciting even in the qualifying rounds. |

Pfieffer, i have to agree with you. I like the courses (in japan) fro D1 and what the drivers need to do. What i don't like is picking the "popular" winner. Hibino vs. Nomuken for example. I think a couple times with Sam you might now what i mean. Lets say you get out there on the 19th and you kick the crap out of Kazama. And they make you go again, since it was kinda close. So again, just by a hair, you do better (this is in your hachi btw... with no turbo though... it uh... broke or something ) so they make you go AGAIN. This time when youa re leading his 500ps S15, he gains a little ground and you fight him off. But you are on his *Censored**Censored**Censored* the whole next run, he can't shake you. And they give it to him... dude, you'd be like WHAT!? F, we'd all be liek WHAT!!!!Thats how D1 is (from what you guys and my friends in J-Land tell me) you can be one of the best drivers, but if they like someone more or you don't drive for on eof the title sponsors... hah, good luck i guess. Anways, I hope you kick *Censored**Censored**Censored* so much they won't even send you another time brah. I'll see you there, b!tch. |

I want to shake Hibino's hand.
After watching the whole video I would have given it to him, but Nomuken had "paid his dues"...So we all know who the judges went with... Still, 2nd place in his first major debut ain't shabby! (this was a little off topic, I know...) |

Don't you guys think it would be cool, if D1 had a round where drivers had to drift the touge? But I'm guessing that would be tough b/c of the small roads and those cars pushing all that power

I think the judging in some of the USA comps has been more whack than stuff in the D1. But what I think dont even matter because I dont participate in any of those events.

if rally drivers can do it, drifters should be able to. I vote for the Touge Round of D1!!
my father spectated at one of the few Canadian events of the World Rally Championship in the late '70s. He told me about how one driver had a puncture at the beginning of a long stage, so he stopped to change the tire. When he got going again, he was right ahead of another driver... The two drivers kept going 100%, essentially tandem drifting through the gravel roads in the forest. I can barely even imagine what that would have been like...

I think he was trying to state that the guy wasn't slowing down the other driver. He merely caught up because of the flat tire. Anyways, that would be pretty hot to watch. Just have god play some eurobeats in the background.
