D1 sucks. This is going to be their loss. But of course, they'll find a way to point the finger elsewhere. It's never their fault

Maybe that's why they picked Long Beach Harbor... haha

Maybe FD should have offered the grease down and a shiatzu, too. lol LESS WORK and LESS MONEY spent, too. Helicopter footage, too. WTF
I'm definitely going to root for and support the D1 drivers coming out for this. It takes a lot of balls to go against the establishment known as D1.

If a series won't let it's drivers come to a world wide event, then yes, I think that is taking the fun out of it and replacing it with "business"
Am I wrong?
|
Not wrong at all Brian. It is unfortunate. When D1 plays here, we want our guys to be in the mix with them. Why not? It would have been a shame to not see JR win, etc. If anyone from another series comes over here and spanks our guys, good for them. Had they not strung it out so long we could have discussed with the other drivers long before they made those commitments. Matter of fact, the original 6 D1 wanted were: Imamura, Nomura, Kumakubo, Suenaga, Taniguchi, Kawabata and Saito...heavy hitters.
Here is an opportunity to pit the best of the best together. We have committed Champions from every recognizable sanctioning body in the world. Luckily Daigo is a stud and stepped up so we have D1's champ too, so we can say we have everyone Champ attending.
At the end of the day, we feel like the best thing to do is just have a good attitude about it and press forward. The event is gonna be sick either way. Never before has this kind of talent been brought forth together and it is a testament to the will of those that committed. Guys from AUS, UK, Germany, CAN, NZ and EU are incredible drifters and though they may not have the recognizable names that some of the J guys do, now we get to see the talent they have. One might be so inclined to say that the names are not as recognizable only because they have not competed here or are in the US media as much as others are. The venue will be nothing anyone has seen before, the TV production will be huge, every seat is reserved and two day tickets online are $35, Pro AM Nat's, Top 32 Tandem, parties every night, 2 day tickets. Ok, enough with the bad sales pitch, but the point is there is a lot to be excited about.
This is a fun thread

Hey slapshot, I think we just found a new motorsport we can venture into. Motorboat Drifting (MD).....What do you think?
D1 management sucks. They could have totally exploited this event to their advantage in so many ways. What idiots.....and can you imagine what this could have done for them if a D1 driver won the event...
FD took a big risk inviting them, in my opinion. I wonder if they're privately taking a big sigh of relief.
Thumbs up FD....You rock........

so exactly how hard is it going to be to get media passes to film at this event? especially for those teams that just want footage of their driver. i personally film for two drivers. both of whom are competing at this event. is it going to be next to impossible for me to get a media pass to film?

No it is not hard. You can film everything except top 32. If you so desire that footage we will provide you a line cut for your team. As long as you are not making a DVD, etc.

it's pretty much the same rules as the season. There's a TV deal involved, so they just want to protect the TV rights.
See ya there, Ross

I mean...lets face it...the only D1 guys most of us cared about seeing compete were N.O.B., Kumakubo, Kazama, and Orido.
|
LOL.... those are all people I would really give a f*ck less about except for orido.
I want to see the OGs, Kuroi, Tezuka, koguchi,.... and why does everyone forget about kawabata??? He was 07 champion.
Ueno last time in the toyota....
ahhh we are missing out on so much
Remember, D1 doesn't have big skill gaps... any of there top 20 drivers can wreak havoc on us with just experience alone.
Ok, well D1... you guys really failed drifting.
I cant believe this madness, they seem to be looking for a reason not to come out.
Next time FD, you guys need to seriously bypass D1. Invite the drivers, just let D1 know you are inviting they're drivers.
You guys bent over like 2 dollar hookers for these guys, what a shame.
Its safe to see who will not be competing in D1 next year.
lol Daigo who??? last years champ??? I can hear it now.
And we must remember, with D1. A Lot of they're driver are under contract with Video Option. And in japan, its hard to sue someone for violation of contract. So its much easier to just basically exile them from the series.
question....
Some chinese dude came out to last round of Formula D...
I thought he competed just because his car/team is already here for the wc.
But no native singapore drivers are on the list...whats up with that???

Let's not forget Ryuji Miki
Let's not forget past D1 Champion Ryuji Miki. Regardless of D1 corporate's policies and issues, we have 3 D1 Champs at this thing. Pretty darn impressive given all the various difficulties (37.5% of D1 Champs). With Saito being recently crowned, there are only 8 D1 Champions in any case.
Personally I think Saito is a huge coup! Fresh off the presses with the skill set needed to win in the current environment. D1's changed a lot since the hey-day of the 2003-2006 seasons. All the podium finishers in the last race of the season didn't see any of the big names on top (even Saito's!). A lot of new talent coming up.
When are the media arrangements being announced? From the Formula D representative I gathered there will be some video coverage, but how soon and which forms? I want a DVD or Blu-Ray of this event for certain so it doesn't go the way of the 2006 season.

The DVD
While I'm at it can I request a stand-alone DVD for this with at least 60 minutes of coverage and the complete 32 through the finalists? I wouldn't mind a digest of the best qualifying runs. As an extra, digests of the non-Formula D drivers' seasons or reasons for being selected. You just can't do justice to the event without those sorts of menu-driven selections, or perhaps a documentary.

Guys, we will have a draw party on Thursday at Smooths in downtown LB.
The point of this is for drivers at random to pick where they will qualify on Saturday. Since no driver is technically ranked we though this would be a fun way to get everyone together, have some fun and create some hype.
This is how it will work.... A driver name will be pulled at random out of a hat. Then that driver will come up, pull a number out of a hat at random. That number will be the number he will qualify. If he picks 17, then he will qualify 17th. The best number to pull would be 32 since you would qualify last and get to see everyone score before yours. This will be open to the public for the most part so come on down if you want.
