Quoc Ly Takes Home the Silver!
March 20th was the inaugural Xtreme Drift Circuit event at the famed Toyota Speedway in Irwindale California. This would be the first round of the six event series, but also the first event for Quoc Ly’s new S13. ![]() Just two weeks before the event, the chassis was a bare shell with only a cage. There was much to do as Quoc, his friends, and Driftspeed scrambled to get the car together. Just like most drifting projects, the team ran into a few problems getting the car together. Through hard work and determination, not to mention the late nights spent without a wink of sleep at Driftspeed, the team overcame all obstacles and got the car up and running in time for the main event. After some last minute adjustments on the dyno, the car emerged with 380hp to the wheels. ![]() Friday’s practice and qualifying came quicker than the team anticipated. There was still work to be done to the car, and the team handled it at the track, missing the first 2 hours of practice. Quoc only had a few runs to try to dial in the suspension, but somehow managed to qualify 1st. After taking the qualifying, the team hustled back to Driftspeed for last minute suspension adjustments. ![]() Coming into the main race day, the team was well rested and the car seemed ready to go. However, during practice, the car had fuel pump issues. The team quickly sourced a new pump, and made it to qualifying. Quoc made his passes and qualified 8th for tandem, putting him up against Lance Feliciano. The pair battled it out and Quoc was able to advance to the next round. In the top 8 round, Quoc went up against Forrest Wang. This was looking to be a good battle, but Wang ran into mechanical problems and was unable to continue on. As the team entered the battle for podium, Quoc’s opponent was Brian Peters. Both drivers did awesomely and when it was over, Quoc advanced to the finals. It was now between Quoc Ly in his newly built machine versus Canadian, David Briggs. The team was on their toes as the pair went head to head. Once the tire dust settled, Quoc came out with the 2nd place finish. ![]() The team would like to thank all of our sponsors: Driftspeed, Apexi, Elusive Kustomz, Supertech, AIT Racing, Circuit Sports, Torco Fluids, ACT, HPS Silicone Hoses, Mishimoto, SGear Gauges, Rays Wheels, Greddy, WPC Treatment, J’s Graphics, and Sparco. And special thanks to everyone else that made this possible: Minako@DS, Koji@DS, Jerrod@DS, Masa@DS, Tony@DS, Hung@HPS, Davis, Kodi, Phi@APBOSS, Jon@J'sGraphics, Stan, Steve, Larry@Driftfotos, Ross@DeadPirateProductions, Kyle, Thomas, Dee@ElusiveKustomz, Adam, Yogi, Alex, and everyone that supported us. Thank you, Quoc Ly |
