This is a completely brand new car, with many revisions to suit the 2011 FD rulebook.
Some things with the new rulebook made us have to go back and think a bit, other things with the new rulebook we saw as an advantage to our program. Bottom line is, the old car would no longer be legal for FD competition in 2011. Great opportunity to build a newer, faster, and more nimble car for Falken Tire and D-Mac ![]() Testing next week should reveal even more overall grip than last year, if we've done the math correctly. I'm pretty confident this car will be more than a couple steps better than even last years car. Also, with more qualifying points based on line, angle, and style this year and only 10 points for speed we've made a few changes to the suspension geometry that should allow this short wheelbase car to hold deeper angle while still maintaining the high speeds. That's often a challenge with sub 96 inch wheelbase cars at FD speeds compared to 100+ inch wheelbase cars, but something we've been working very hard on. Sometimes I'm not sure the judges understand how hard it is to hold super deep angle with that short of a wheelbase at the speeds of modern Formula D. This little car is physically no bigger than an AE86. There's also many other new updates on the car that I'd prefer to keep to myself... ![]() Alex, let me know if there is anything specific you were referring to? |

Very cool. I see the car is a hard top now. Did they release the Sky in a hardtop, or is this custom?

FD rules don't allow a roof to be cut off, but they do allow for a roof to be added to a convertible.
We liked the look of the Solstice Coupe, but GM only made about 1200 of them before shutting down production. So we built our own Solstice Coupe styled roof for the Saturn Sky bodywork. Both Falken Tire and ASD wanted to bring a new look for the fans with the new car build, no other real reason for the Coupe styled roof. I hope everybody likes the look as much as we do, although its difficult to see the real lines of the car from this angle. It was a lot of work to try and get the look just right. Everyone who has seen it in person so far gives the thumbs up, so I think we're on the right track. |

The car looks stellar! Even from this angle. I cant wait to see it on the ground with it's full livery and that wirey little Irish dude behind the wheel. I get the felling we are going to be seeing some really good things from ASD/Falken camp this year. Now lets see that 350Z!
