Well actually their isnt such thing as an easy engine swap. Their is alot of things you have to do. As a matter of fact you should check out the tech reference section on club4ag.com. They have plenty of info. Oh and if you have an SR5 with a 4ac motor you can swap in any of the motors mentioned above but to make it easier you hsould use a carburetor system on the motor instead of fuel injection. Reason being is you dont need as maney parts for the swap as you would if you were to keep the motor F.I.

ya hes right is it an sr5 or gts i was assuming gts for sum reason.all require customization. not really any just drop in and bolt down swaps

heck if you're gonna need a lot of fabrication to put some of those engines in (mainly beefing up drivetrain and re-wiring ecu) why not just go for a 13b or sr20det. i belive there is a thread about a ca powered ae86

you don't need alot of fabbing anything. its actually quite simple. the only challenge is the wiring. other than that, 4AG swaps are farily plug and play. all the motor mounts are swappable, all the intakes and exhausts bolt up between all the different motors. its just the wires, and you can do that yourself or pay someone to do it for you. not hard, really not hard.
check www.club4ag.com for chomprehensive info, start by reading the whole of the tech reference, and use the search button before you go posting this. its been covered so many times.

oh, except the water lines. but those aren't hard to manufacture. you'll see what i mean when you get to the threads in 4ag

The easiest and most cost effective is the Hi-comp block mated to a large port head. Thats what I have. It was about $400 for the motor and selling the head and other misc. pieces lets you recoup some cash.

i meant mainly beefing up the drivetrain. ya the "age"line of engines pretty much drop into the ae86 chassis but i have read that the stock rearend can barely handle the power of a stock 4agze.

Their's more things than just wiring. You have to get a new gastank, new fuel pump, ne fuel lines, a bunch of sensors, and loads of other things.

                      Yay first post!

                      Anyways:

The basic 4age engine (the 16 valve or variants) Will be the easiest to put in. If its something other then a blue top it will have been from a front wheel drive vehicle- But other then the flywheel hooking up to your transmision it will "bolt in".

As for the 4age 20v variants, the "silver top" and "black top" Thigns becoem more complicated. Being a 4age it bolts into the mounts easy enough but some serious modification will need to be done.

The intake box will need to be modified, when in the 86 the intake will be facing the back- so it need to be removed, closed off, and a new hole fabricated on the front. Youll need room for the distributor as well, so youll need to pund back the fire wall, or even cut a whole in it to make room for the thing. Since the Exhaust was off a FF car, custom headers will need to be bent for the vehicle. Also custom oil and water lines need to be made. Another major problem is the ecu, the ecu of the 86 cant contro lthe vvt needed for the 20v engines- so the ae101/111 ecu will need to be used, or a whole different aftermakert ecu will need to be purchased. Theres a few other problems, but those are the majors.

Also all these engines hook up to the t50 tranny once youve corrected the flywheel to link to a rear wheel drive tranny.
                      _____
Any 4age engine will be suitable for an 86 to be droped in- and the problems can be over come easy, and information on how to over come them can be found easily online since its all been done before.

You can get a 4ag with under 40,000 miles and it cost about 1200. Its a silvertop 20v but it comes with a ae101 tranny. So you could probabl sell the tranny for about 200 dollars. If you want to know the name of the place i can tell you.

well personally having a friend building the silvertop 20v, the motor is very strong even stock. it has forged rods, iron block, 5 valves per cylinder, forged crank, piston oil squirters, ITB's etc.

since my friend got an abused motor, (heat stress on crank and mains) he is building it with HKS stroker 83mm crank, carrillo rods, 82mm JE forged pistons, toda 272 cams and valvetrain and various other peices of craziness. He is basically waiting for the pistons and will hopefully be assembled by october and ready to race next year
