New to drifting/Lancer

This is a discussion on New to drifting/Lancer within the NEW to DRIFTING (BEGINNERS) Forum forums, part of the NEW to DRIFTING (BEGINNERS) category; I'm new to drifting and was wondering would a Lancer be a good drift car? Also, how is the aftermarket?...

Short answer: No.

If you're referring to a FWD Lancer, then it falls in the same category as any other FWD car. You can, but why bother?

If you're talking about an Evo, then there's still plenty of reasons not to.
1) They're expensive (compared to most drift cars)
2) They're AWD, so it's a whole different animal than a RWD car
3) You could modify it to make it driftable, but you'd be defeating the purpose the car was built for and it would probably just be cheaper in the long run to buy a car specifically for drifting.

s2000 you could do fine with, but a civic not so much

remember that drifting is pretty much for rear wheel drive cars, which is why the s2000 will work well

I'm sure a lot of people will tell you the s2000 needs extensive this and that to be prepared to drift, but you'll learn and be able to do it just fine in one if you go out and practice.. as you progress you can add more and more mods to match your skill

having an LSD is a key helper though

I'd get an aftermarket LSD (limited slip diff) and then I'd upgrade the suspension to either springs and shocks or a set of coilovers

If you want a stylish car that is drift ready right off the lot i would suggest a 350z, same price as s2k, no need to modify. but i agree, invest in some good adjustable shocks, springs, coil overs, any other suspension components so you have more breath room, you can get soft or stiff suspension or whatever you want in between. and while your at it, invest in brakes!
