in the nw, ppl are just into drag racing, when the topic of street racing comes up... when i mentioned drifting all the sudden they treat me like a ricer!!

WTF is with this? have u experienced this association of drifting with being a ricer???

Ai ai, I think I know what you are talking about. I have seen this phenomena elsewhere in the world. Sadly, since many "drifters" tend to be young kids playing in the snow with their parents cars. At least they are learning. Or there are those Initial D goons who talk a lot of *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored*, but don't really know much. As for drag racing, cars are built with steering wheels, and these should be used ^_^.

TBH, I never have much respect for drag racing. Not to diss anyone or anything. I believe drifting takes more skill in the general scheme of things.

i went out, arranged one race with one guy in a forum who challenged me, i won, and they still call me "mad, TYTE, DRIFTO, YO!"

Nice win ^_^, we have to use what we have. Right now I don't even have a car. I used to own a 4 door cavi. Now thats a car you cannot easily drift. But there are a lot of gravel roads around here, so it is possible.

I really want to get an FC over the summer, but with college and other expenses, who knows...

yeah... out of all the sims i tried rwd's are the fastest cars. but my theory is that any car with a motor and four wheels w/ brakes can slide(i'm not going to say drift b/c i offended ppl b4 w/ that)... so yes, drifting or more aptly, touge is a sport where anything goes...

Ai, I can agree with that. Any car can powerslide. Just not all can "drift", as it were.

Down where I live The majority of people who talk about drifting mostly hone in on the import side of it. They refuse to even think about an American car being any kind of challange.


I am a lover of both. I love seeing cars like the 68 Falken camaro. And Im a sucker for the always popular AE-86 tureno.


Both sides offer a great deal of nice little treats.

As for muscle. I drool at the thought of making my own personal Chevelle drift car.

Imports I always thought did a lot better with agility. theyre the rabbits of the road. Small but quick.

Muscle cars are power. Theyre so powerfull All they do is spin out when you floor them anyway. So to controll the spinning in a turn is amazingly inspiring.

But like it was stated a few posts up. theres a difference. Ive never seen a power slide in a race where it lasted the whole race. So theyres a great deal of difference in the two.

Oh yeah, I totally agree with you. Old Muscle can make some sick drift machines. I just hate people who don't think drifting is a legitimate motorsport.

People don't think of it as a legitimate sport because of inexperienced youngsters such as yourselves talking about it all the time, but having no idea what drifting really is, representing it as a fanboy movement, instead of a legitimate sport. You see vids on youtube of Rhys throwing his tail out with a cloud of smoke and you think you do.

It's embarrassing to those of us who have been around for a while. I don't mean to offend any of you but personally, I'm offended. I'm offended that this is what the sport has come to.

But anyway, just a bit of correction:

1) Not any car can powerslide, only a RWD car can powerslide.
2) Not any car can drift, only a RWD car can drift.
3) A powerslide is not a form of drifting.

A powerslide is when you overaccelerate through a turn and lose traction, causing the tail to swing out mid-turn. Only possible when the drive wheels are the rears.

A drift is a slide initiated before a turn and carried through a turn, maintained with throttle and countersteer. Again, only possible with the rears being the drive wheels.

You should be able to see the difference.

Please do not disagree or argue it will only make yourselves sound more ignorant, these are not debateable terms. They were defined by ppl in motorsports long before myself, and certainly any of you were born.

This has been Drifting 100 1/2. Please continue to Drifting 101 and educate yourselves.

OK, I dissed drag racers, boo hoo. So let me clarify my earlier drag racer diss. I don't have respect for the idiot kids who "drag" race, or for that matter "drift" or just race in general on public roads. He was talking about kids his age, I assume they are that type. Not to mention I was trying to offer some consolation to him as well.

I am sorry, I forgot how you came out of your moms womb being a perfect drifter, how you were never a stupid kid who thought you knew what you were talking about but didnt. PART OF THE PROBLEM WITH "YOUR" SPORT IS THAT THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE WHO MAY WANT TO LEARN WHO END UP MEETING YOU. Then why bother? After all, we quote unquote "dont know what it is". I do respect a 10 second driver, lord knows I cant make the five or six shifts in ten seconds on a 1/4. I do respect Lance Armstrong. I do respect the drivers of NASCAR even though I think the sport itself is kind of dumb. I respect anyone who is good at what they do.


All in all, maybe this isn't the place for me. I hoped it would be, I wanted to come to a place where I could talk somewhat freely about my love of driving, even if I don't know a lot. Believe me, I am willing to learn. If someone steps up, and takes authority in a kindly way, I will gladly let them lead. I just want to find out if there is anyone else out there who feels a special kind of bond, when a car pushes them as they push the car.

However, what I don't like, are arrogant assholes, who come on here, or anywhere else, and feel that they have some intrinsic right to demean me and my experience merely because it "could" devalue the sport. When in fact they had no reason to worry in the first place. Kids have been drag racing and autoxing since they could get in cars. You think that they wouldnt drift either? And more importantly, has any single motor sport really suffered because kids were doing it? While I cannot condone doing anything illegal, despite the fact that I, and probably a good number of people on this board have at one point, I still don't see where you get off acting all high and mighty simply because you have a little rep.

Either be helpful, or dont waste my time. Because I assure you that if you come in here to harrass me, I don't care if your muhammed ali, I will still defend myself.

Now finally I want to apologize for anything mean I may have said that did not need to be said. And I am going to take a break and finish a paper for a psych class. When I come back, I expect one of three things:

I can let you know that as of now you have earned a lot of respect from me. You do seem to legitimately want to learn and that's all I require.

No, I am not a perfect drifter. There are probably 15, 16, 17 year olds with one year of experience that are better than me. But those are the guys that are actively participating in events, meets, and listen to advice from the vets, and doing all they can to improve, and generally live to drift and be the best they can be. They realize that vets can be critical but realize that is the best feedback they can get.

BTW, drag racers don't shift 5 or 6 times, maybe 3.

When I was green, I knew I was green, and I let myself be taught. You get a lot further. 3? Still too many for me to ever hit! ^_^. I am sorry about earlier. I am a pretty passionate person, and combining that with little sleep makes it easy for me to make a larger fool of myself.

I read my above posts once again and realized that they were at odds with each other. I came out looking like a ricer hating ricer ^_^. I guess I should say that what I meant is that I dislike kids who fool around only to look cool, and have no intention of getting to know their car better, or to work on their own technique. I think that these are probably the same people you might be talking about.
Ai, I am rather green, I can easily admit and attest to that. Sometimes I do tend to be incompetent. That is, I think I know more then I do. I think everyone has some measure of incompetence in something in their life.

So I guess I am one of those people you hate ^_^, since I think everyone kind of starts at that level. I just hope I understand the difference, as others do too.

In conclusion, I want to say that I dont want to learn drifting or sports driving to beat someone else, to get respect, to look good. I want to learn it so I can become closer to my car(when I have one), and understand it better.
