Referee Ticket... How Im Getting Out of It

So 2 weeks ago I got a referee ticket in Huntington Beach. Because I have an SR20 and a slew of other very illegal parts on the car I dont have many options. Here is what I was thinking... I was planning on turning the car into strictly a racecar anyway so now is as good a time as any. I want to let the registration expire, which is in 3 months or so, and also cancel my insurance. At that point I would just tow it to every event. My question is, Do you guys think that this would be sufficient enough to satisfy the judge?

BTW- here is a little humor i got out of the whole situation. This was on the morning of D1 vs. FD as I was driving to the event. So I got pulled over by two motorcycle cops for getting sideways around a corner. In many cases I would be guilty of that but not this morning(i dont do it during the day or on populated streets). But here is what the cop said. "You know what happens if you break traction around a corner? There is no way to recover from that! You will spin out and crash!... your lucky this time you didn't!" hahaha, Apperantly he didnt see the "I <3 drifting" sticker on my bumper.

I don't think that will work. you'd have to show a Certificate of Non Operation for a prescribed period of time, and if you get a ticket during this period, you'd have to pay all registration fees due plus penalties.

If you own the car outright, sell it to a friend for $1, but make the Bill of Sale say something like $2500 and that you stripped it for parts, then sold it. It'll be more helpful if you "sell" it to a friend who lives out of state.

Go to court, they'll dismiss the ticket.

Then, the next day, "buy" the car back.

I know several people who have beaten the system this way.

Another way is to just register it with an out of state relative, and say that you "sold" the car, using the above-mentioned Bill of Sale.

wow.

I never thought i'd hear a marketing manager of a performance exhaust company suggest someone 'beat the system'.

Is it common for you to suggest this to your customers?! that sounds kinda shady...

Jacob;
For your information, that may be my day job, but if you notice from my posting, I am posting under my NAME, not my company.

My advice to this gentleman was to help exploit LEGAL loopholes in the system to his advantage.

If you want to talk about "shady" practices on behalf of a company representative, I can rehash your company's repeated claims of being the sole casting agency for FF3.

Happy New Year...now STFU.

From what I know, you're not allowed to sell the car with a "ref" ticket on it. Because when you sell it, it has to be smogged and such.

My friend got a smog ref ticket for his WRX and he "accidently" went to a smog station instead of a ref, paid the smog guy off, and then went to the court with his Smog Certificate instead of a ref cert.

The judge said that, that was fine and let him off. You can try that too.

craiglieberman- That sounds like it would work but then when I buy my car back and get it re-registered wouldnt i then have to take it in to get it smogged? BTW- how long would the car have to be non-operational for to be a race-use only car? Is there any distinction that makes a racecar, registration wise?

yukio@jic-magic - Id like to try that since it sounds like the easiest answer, but on my ticket they put a fatty sticker with the address of the exact ref station I need to take it to. The judge may be cool about it OR he might think im an F'in idiot. Sounds like a gamble.

Well... you can just "lose" the ticket and just have gone to a smog station instead. You have nothing to lose. If you go in and get your smog certification, and judge says "that's not the right one", then the judge will give you more time to do what you have to do. You're buying time. Also, you can always get extensions, and then plead not guilty and hopefully Mr. Po-Po won't show up. I have had friends do that as well. I did that with an exhaust ticket that I got. I got extensions for 9 months and when court time came, cop was no longer a cop and he moved on to a different career.

yeah i looked into it and found that i can get 3 extensions of 60 days each. So Im gonna put it off as long as possible and do whatever the best solution is when that time comes.
