Exclamation Importing my car from Japan

Hello all,

I wanted to know if I should even try to bring my Altezza back from Japan with me. There is a high possiblity that I will be leaving Japan and moving back to Virginia, USA; I rather not just sell the car that I just bought 4 months ago. It is a 1998 Toyota Altezza 6 speed, Beams engine. Is there any way to bring it back for parts or race only and then make it road worthy that isn't going to cost more than the cars current Japanese Market value(like $4,000 US) I am open to any serious ideas or information from someone who has done this.
Thanks

first check with your pass and registration on base.. they will provide a list of cars that are not exportable to the states.

then contact you DOT office in VA..... sigh good luck with that lol.

if the military approves it, you can ship it via TMO.. if not you will have to ship it yourself.. honestly you need more than 6 months to go through with the process... it cant be done inside of 2 weeks becuase of all the people you have to talk to.

if you got the cash and resources, you can ship it yourself.

of course there are the other options. like shipping it to canada and then doing some illegal stuff, but i don't condone such actions, and you're in big trouble and you'll lose your car if you're ever caught.
My opinion don't do it illegally that's all.
IF you really want to do it, and if it is at all possible, you'll find a way. sorry i don't have too much information.
you could try to e-mail justchillinuno@yahoo.com
he's a guy on another forum i'm on and apparently he knows some guy that does importing, i don't know if maybe he can help you out, but it's worth a shot.
Tell him someone from the Drift utah forums gave you the information and he'll probably remember where it came from.
good luck
