Is there a reason the tires are all stretched out like that? Since I looked at this I've been looking at all the old BMW's around here thinking "That would look so much better with those wheels..." :P

its called hipari or stretched tires

kind of a fad does have some function mostly for big offsets and they use a smaller tire

yes, there is

they gave you better response with the steering and you get much more steering feedback.

it is a way to artificially stiffen the side-walls so the transition from grip to drift, and back is less abrupt.

do a search, and you'll find much dead-horse beating on that subject.
