If i were to take a guess, it has to do with FD's Singapore deal. That driver is from Malaysia, and Goodyear Asia is his sponsor (not Goodyear USA) and the Binter Drifter people are the ones who threw the FD Singapore event last year.

So, it's a nice way of saying... "well, you are a special case, so go ahead and use that tire. Everybody else.... sorry." ?

If Goodyear USA wanted to be a part of Formula D, they would be. I'm sure SOMEONE had to have sent them a sponsorship proposal at some point.

What's Formula D supposed to do? Turn away a guy/team who helped them put together one of their first international events?

Its awkward but...its tire rule..or keep up international relations...I think the latter is probably the logical way to go here.

Anyway...This guy running might help to convince Goodyear to get involved if someone takes the initative to use this as leverage.

"Hey dude...even Goodyear ASIA saw the potential in Formula D...maybe you should take a second look at this"

It's just shitty for the lower drivers.

Of course this is how the business works, so, that's understandable.

Sucks for people who are trying to do FD on their own dime, buy a bunch of tires, then find out, SORRY, can't use them. It's all good though. Money rules all. if you don't have it, then get the F out.

Dunlop and General tire are both Goodyear subsidiaries. Dunlop WAS in drifting in the US, but pulled out. General Tire is involved in Canada, but not here yet...

if they did drifting again, I would anticipate it to be under the Dunlop brand.

That would definitely suck for a priviteer.

But theres always the Falken Tire deal...I mean I don't know what Goodyear is doing to support the smaller budget guys but if they aren't doing anything then why pay full price for Goodyears when you could get Falkens at a discount and not have to worry about the tire rule?

If there's anyone out there with stacks of goodyears that they can't use I highly suggest slangin' em all and hitting up Falken.

Yeah yeah yeah..

Anyway if you want to look at the other side of the coin...if I was a pro guy with a limited budget...I'd probably look into the rules about that kind of thing BEFORE I spent a hefty amount of my cash on tires.

The tire rule aint new man...anyone who wanted to get in this season or last season would have done themselves a favor by talking to Formula D first before spending a red cent on anything. Especially tires.

Falken Tire Corp is pleased to announce that we are launching a highly discounted tire purchase program to licensed drivers for the 2009 season. Although full product sponsorships are not available at this time, we believe this program will significantly reduce competition tire purchasing expenses for privateer teams.

Detailed below are the program guidelines.

* Teams will have to designate which sizes they will be using for the season and those will be the only sizes available for purchase. There is no guarantee on availability of sizes. In this case alternate sizes may be substituted.
* Tires purchased from Falken are not to be re-sold to a third party. Abuse of this purchase program will result in a disqualification to participate.
* Teams will be responsible for transportation of the tires to events. Tires may be picked up at our Fontana headquarters location or shipped at the purchasing teams’ expense.
* Teams will be responsible for mounting and disposal of tires. Falken Tire will provide trackside tire mounting services at Formula D Pro Series events for teams using Falken brand tires as time and resources permit.
* There is no limit on the tires available for purchase for events and testing.
* Teams will be required to run Falken decals on the front and sides of the race car. Specific details will be provided.

Teams who wish to participate in the program, please contact Roman Bencomo at 909-466-1116 x636 to discuss tire sizing, pricing and availability. rbencomo@falkentire.com
