As always Simon, you did a good job on the day, and I was amazed that Dorry went well lol. I got 50 mins uncut video and 2 4min edited clips of the day - Josh has them on VHS.
Here is the progress on my Trueno:- Most of external body assembled, central locking installed, started on 3SGE bottom end - ACl rings dont fit properly! (According to ACL there standard rings are for ACL standard pistons ![]() I have to file my oil ring grooves! Next step is the powder coating of sump, crossmember and mounts |

I have owned 2 x TE72s. The old 3T has potential and the diff is same as aussie sprinters - I put one in my sprinter at one stage (altho some were 3.7:1 borg warners).
Search for Rhys Keepence, He has a nice TE72, I used to chat to him about his mods. In my opinion they need a big rear wing (for looks). Dorry has XD falcon 6kg springs front and back, cut down as far as i can without risk of falling out. This raised the vehicle something like 3 inches. I added 1850 Sigma control arms to give me back negative camber. The 6kg are almost too hard for rally, VB commodore rear springs for the front of dorry and XF fairlane rear springs for the back is a bit more *Censored**Censored**Censored* friendly. I only use 6kg for best compromise of handling on-road as well as off-road. |

Thanks a bunch man. Even though i probably wont be able to get any of those parts in Texas. And since there is no organized rally stuff going on down here im gonna be doing it just for fun. I am also gonna use it for autocross and of course DRIFTING since we do have some good organized meets down here. It does have a 3t-c in it now but i already have a 66 mustang with a pushrod engine. I really want EFI and DOHC so that i can put a turbo on there easily. 4A-GE seems like the most common easy and affordable solution but i would love something more original like 3T-GTE,3S-GTE,13BT,or even SR20DET something with a little more RPM than that 3T-C would like. 3T-GTE would be great since it came in this chassis from the factory, but we never got them in the states. So if any of you aussies want to help me out with finding one of those and maybe sending me some replacement parts that i couldnt get here that would be great. Anyway enough rambling, thanks again for the help.

Unfortunately because the 3TGTE came out in about 83-85 in the last couple of years it has become rare as rocking horse *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored*! When you do find one its big$$$ and thrashed. There not the best motor anyways as the turbos are not water cooled and about as good as a t2, also the injectors and pistons are pretty sad and with 2 double row timing chains they are a bit of a tractor. 4AGE is a lot lighter and smaller then 3T and has good potential.
I am putting a 3SGE in my trueno and its not THAT hard, just takes a little dosh but not realy any dearer then a 4agze install just a bit more fidly. Should get more hp then stock ze anyways. There is a bunch out at peuto rico that specialise in 3T, they have a catalogue. Cant think of there name but they get 8000-10000 rpm out of them!! Pretty impressive for a pushrod engine! If you email me I will hunt for there phone number. I am not in a rally club, I just go looking for tracks on weekends and embarass a few try hards in 4wds lol. |

whats the diff.
Hi again all. I have a question about the rear end in this thing. It is a 1981 te72 corolla 2dr. sedan. It has a 3t-c engine with a 4spd manual (which i have heard called a t-40) that would include 3.7 rear gears i assume. I want a LSD for sure but i dont know what all i would have to upgrade. Can I just swap out the center section with say an AE86 LSD? Or should i just get the whole rear end? Also does anybody know why KAAZ lists different diffs for 83-85 gts or 86-87gts? Im confused any thing will help.

Different countries use different stuff - In Australia all rollas from ke55-ke70 use Australian borg warner diffs and the auto ones use Holden GM boxes! We get different brakes too. Most TE71 use borg warner here with rear sway bar but some use S (6.35in) jap diffs without rear sway bar. thats the same diff as in aussie ae86 (crap). A celica RA23 - RA40 use T (6.7in) diffs, they will fit in AE86/TE71 but are 10mm longer either side and have smaller spring seats. TRD LSDs are for T series only, but watch out with the axels. Simon would know as Shane does that axels are a problem. The later LSDs had different axels, and the earlier ones require 5-10mm to be shaved off the length of the axels when used in a RA40 housing.
I am going to try a RA40 t312 in my AE85 and if its too weak I have a 1978 hilux diff. They are another 10mm or so longer either side again over a RA40 diff, but should fit under the guards (might have to use FWD rims lol) and I have to weld on multilink mounts to the hilux diff as it was leaf spring. Here is a pic of 1 of the 4 S diffs I broke. |
