How much did it cost to build your car?

I am a newbie to the drift scene (mainly road race/drag race) but I figure to build my skills more I would like to add drifting to my resume. I was wondering if you guys (and girls) would help me out and let me know how much it cost to put your car together (please include mods/pics).

I am looking at a 90 240sx hatch and am thinking of adding a sr20det...any suggestions on a red/black top?

Thanks,

Dan

too much!

CrazyHawaiian 12-24-2003 02:45 AM

Well I drive a domestic so I doubt a parts/price listing would be usefull to you. But just for comparison's sake, total cost when complete will be $9,500 including the cost of the car. So far I'm @ $5,300 ... but still putting the car back together.

A SR20 should not be your first mod if you want to drift that S13. LSD should be your first mod.

Mashing a Porsche GT2 motor into a volvo station wagon costs...way too much.

_uG TM 12-24-2003 03:25 AM

never thought of counting to get an exact figure....may end up killing myself :(

SilverGhost 12-24-2003 11:31 AM

havent counted either, but quite a bit. by far though, the most money in one shot was when i broke the rack and pinion in my steering.....that was like 1400 bucks or something to get new from the nissan dealer.....

CRASHDRIVE 12-24-2003 11:49 AM

Yeah just like everyone, I dont want to see how much i spend. But face your fears right? :D

Just wondering were you got the Neovas. There only sold here just currious.

wrx/240sx 12-26-2003 01:34 AM

Thanks for your replies everyone...Well it looks like the WRX is going to have to go then. I would post it here but AWD cars don't like to drift (unless of course they make big power). Anyone interested in an 02 WRX? ;)

PearlWhiteMike 12-27-2003 12:55 AM

ive only sunk a few thousand into modifying. keeping tires on it, gas, and paying for repairs takes up most of the money

slidetotheright 12-27-2003 09:27 AM

too much but its so much fun! keep the KA in there until you get used to drifting the 240 and/or if you blow it. An SR20 is a little more expensive to replace if you blow it.

the same way you get any other jdm motor, a japanese engine importer. why wouldnt they sell DSM motors too? they sell imported toyota motors, imported honda motors, imported mazda motors

the JDM 4G63T comes from their 90-93 Galant VR4's. The 90 motor is different as for the oil cooler for it is air cooled and the 91+ is water cooled. I picked the motor up from CNS Motors in LA.

PearlWhiteMike 12-29-2003 03:11 AM

is that the same thing as the "cyclone motor"? i dont know way too much 'bout DSM swaps, other than 6 bolt (90-92, at least in the US) is better

driftxtreem 12-29-2003 04:23 AM

get a wheel barrow fill it with Bennies and then count it. That probobly still aint enough.

yes, its the same motor but the JDM has a different intake mani hens why they call it a cyclone motor. Its a straight swap just have to use the US intake mani. Other then that mani, the long block is the exact same.

Ghost of Duluth 12-30-2003 05:35 PM

Ouch, ouch, ouch,ouch.

Don't make me think bout that anymore.

nightracer 12-30-2003 07:50 PM

My Porsche is stock except for the APC stickers:D

I honestly can't come up with a dollar amount but I often say I could have put all the money I've put into the Porsche and had a T04R Supra. :D I'm often tempted to ditch it for one.
