    Awesome event. Awesome drifting.

FYI....This was posted by a friend that I invited to attend this event. He is a big motorsport fan, but has never attended a drifting event until this one. I told him to briefly describe his experience.

First D1 I wasnt all that impressed with. Vendors were scarce, half the rides there were pimped out gullwinged nightmares, seemed very disorganized and announcer seems to be clueless about cars for the most part. Wang was hooking it up nice though. The event had a lot of potential, and just went to *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored*.

          Awesome time!

I'm not going to be picky about the event.... I HAD A BLAST!
I didn't think there was such a thing as 'fan progression' but I'm seeing a lot of the drifters outcomes before they happen.

Ueno was tagging wayyy close to Saito and I knew almost instantly that he would lose his drift 2nd corner before final round.

Kumakubo was lucky to miss the *black BMW (sorry, forgot driver's name)* in the first transition with a near crash

OMG, I can still smell the rubber as the wind blew all of it into the VIP section. Smells like bliss ^_^ *hope this isn't carcinogenic, cause I'm addicted* ...anyone have a rubber patch I can put on my arm ? It's a bad habit
          ---------------------------------------------------
Apparently rubber is a carcinogen and will increase my risk for prostate cancer (happened to come across it while studying) >.<

I still had a blast. I'm still going to get my rubber fix in future drift events.

(FEEDBACK) D1 GRAND PRIX USA May 2, 2009 Anaheim, CA

I went to todays D1 event with high expectations and hopes. Unfortunately I was disappointed on many levels with the event. I usually don't like to be a "hater" on things and an normally pretty easy to please but today was quite a let down.

            1) First major thing was there were very few Japan drivers and the few Japanese drivers that did make it, some were not even driving their main D1 Japan series vehicle. Some were using demo cars from the US. I don't even think Nomuken and maybe some of the other advertised Japanese drivers even showed!

            2) I saw the track and "WTF!" I went to a couple of formula d's and a d1 in previous years at Irwindale and the layout of this course was weak/boring!

            3) Besides Forrest Wang non of the other drivers even came close to the four D1 Japanese drivers. I think D1 was pulling random drivers from the parking lot to compete. This really took the excitement out of the tandems because of the unbalanced skill levels.

            4) No open pit area! This is usually one of the highlights of the day for me, getting to shake the drivers hands and to check out their mean drift machines up close and personal. To make it worse I go home and see the flyer clearly states "open pits"

            5) What was up with all the riced out cars and the DUB cars!?! It was like mixing kimchee with mac n cheese!! bleeck! No disrespect to those who own Cutless Supremes riding on 32" wheels with lambo doors but this was not the right event to have that kind of a car show!

            6) The lack of food vendors was a joke. There were four food booths for four thousand people! Long lines and when you finally get to the front, half the items were sold out!

            7) No exit/re entry privileges. So no going to get food at the restaurants across the street despite them not having enough to feed the hungry in the stadium.

(The first 3 points are really the problems, but the other 4 were just little things that really put the cherry on top for my bitterness with today's D1)

Again, I am not usually one to hate but man did I feel ripped off! If you went to todays event and agree/disagree please post. Maybe if enough people voice their complaints, D1 with take notice and clean their act up. But for now, Im sad to say that the former glory and excellence of D1 is no more here in the states.

                  d1gp was wack

Start time for the top 16 supposedly @ 2 p.m. which actually started closer to 3:40-3:45 p.m.?

That new anouncer is no Toshi nor Jarod...

I love the Maxima with the bmw 7 series headlights and evo front bumper

You know it's bad when the fans start booing and 2/3's of the fans leave the grandstands even before the winner is announced...my 2 cents....

Big D1 supporter very disappointed what was that track layout that was weak you guys should of kept the layout that you were promoting that much. Oh and another thing the drifting was supposed to start at 10:25am and you guys started like at 11:45am. Oh and that was messed up when the security's took away the guy that actually was trying to help you guys out by removing a broken plastic piece from a car that ur staff crew failed to see it and all the people trying to tell them to grab it that's why the people where booing. Come on d1 stepped it up you guys need better track crew, and actually do what you guys promote. I know it was the first event for a new management but seriously stepped it up if you guys want to make drifting known nationwide on t.v. No more stadium track layouts please for the future go back to irwindale. D1 don't take this personally it's all meant as constructive criticism.

Very pleased with the amateur drivers, I thought D1 really gave them a chance to shine. This is what drifting is all about, going back to the grassroots level where pure love for the sport has not been tainted by corporate greed.
Disappointed with the long delays and the gumball drivers trying to drift in their "supercars". Other than the guy in the R34, note to the gumballers: reality check for you guys, drifting isn't as easy as you thought, show some respect rather than trying to ridicule the drifters just because you drive more expensive cars. Most of them couldn't even do donuts!! Talk about supercars exposed!!
Back to feedback, Forest Wang, please somebody sponsor him..he was the best and the most consistent American driver. Much deserve podium finish for him.
Coming in, I knew the solo runs and top 16 were worth skipping because of only a handful of Japanese drivers showed up but watching the amateurs given the chance to perform at probably the biggest stage in their career speaks a lot on what D1 is trying to accomplish with drifting.
One last complaint, Daigo and Kumakubo match should have gone to a one more time.
Btw, what ever happened to Nomuken?

Yep...Escorted out right after the "Wang vs. Kuma" saga! Don't know why The mullet crew blasting Scorpions and throwing up signs was my favorite part of the whole event

All I can say is this event was the equivalent of buying some knockoff TE37's. Look legit from far away but when you get up on them...Damn..Let down...

I want to thank Drifting.com for the free VIP's But I am so glad I did not pay to go to this.

It fell short in many instances...Here are some examples.

VIP area - WTF was up with the so called "Bar"...5 dollar canned sodas

PA system - Holy jankiness....5 speakers in each corner sitting on a ghetto looking trailer creating lots of static and half the time didn't even work.

Course Layout - What a joke....I thought this was suppose to be one of the largest purpose built drift courses in the U.S

More like the size of the Adams kart track in Riverside...Maybe even smaller.

Personally I think we all got took son!!

Now they can move on to the next town for more suckers

One more thing...The course workers sucked a big donkey dong!!

Some caring fan got in there to help out and remove some debris and for that got booted the hell out!!! WTF!

                          Comment

USA pro drifting is simply losing old core fans and (in theory) bringing in new fans.

It's happening with FD and apparently now happening with D1.

Kind of a bummer, but I guess to those in charge, it's fine. As long as the profit is there, then all is well I guess....
