  • Rhys Millen talks with Drift Fans Saturday on "The Inside Drift"

World Champion Rhys Millen is I.D.’s First Guest
Talk of Championships and Mid-air Maneuvers Sure to Draw Callers

Rhys Millen is accustomed to putting himself into high pressure, very dangerous situations. From his successful career in Formula Drift, to blasting up switchback turns flanked by thousand foot drop offs at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, to flipping a truck in mid-air, Millen has fashioned a career out of courting danger. So it’s only fitting he would agree to be the first guest to run the gauntlet of very passionate drift enthusiasts calling into The Inside Drift, the first Internet radio talk show dedicated entirely to the professional drift scene.
The newly crowned World Champion of Drift and the only man ever to complete a midair backflip of a truck will face callers and the program’s host, Gary Keith for an extended interview before a global audience of drift fans this Saturday, January 17 at 10:00am PST (1:00pm EST), the program’s debut. The program will last 60 minutes and will be accessible at www.BlogtalkRadio.com/The-inside-drift and www.thedriftzone.com.
Listeners who want to join in the conversation and ask questions or converse directly with Millen on the air can do so by calling the program from any telephone, cell phone, or via their computer using Skype or any VOIP client. The call-in phone number is 646.716-4717 (regular long distance rates apply).
The Inside Drift is Internet delivered so it will be available to a world-wide audience. While the sport is growing quickly in north America, Drifting enjoys a huge following in Japan, where it was born on the canyon roads outside of Tokyo in the ‘80s, and throughout most of Asia. Drifting is growing in popularity in Europe, and there is a passionate fan base in Australia and New Zealand, Millen’s country of birth.
International listeners can call the program using their microphone equipped computer, so calling the program from outside the U.S. can be free, or cost just pennies using Skype or some other VOIP client.
Rhys Millen brings a compelling personal story to the debut of The Inside Drift. A champion in several extreme forms of motorsports including off-road racing, professional drifting, and the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Millen splits his off-track work time between professional stunt driving and running his own professional race team (Rhys Millen Racing) and his thriving automotive performance aftermarket products and engineering company, RMR Products.
In his drift career, Millen has worn the “black hat”, taking unpopular positions with the fans, then bringing them to his side by his on-track performance. In 2004 he introduced a V8 powered Pontiac GTO at the D1GP professional drift event at the hallowed “House of Drift”, Irwindale Raceway in southern California.
At the time, the sport was dominated by Japanese imports powered principally by turbocharged four cylinder motors. The appearance of “Detroit Iron” in this bastion of imports produced an impassioned and predictable chorus of boos.
A year later, at the same track, he clinched the Formula Drift Championship, driving the same Pontiac GTO. His Championship was punctuated by enthusiastic cheers. His ground-breaking introduction of a factory-backed, American made V8 to the sport was a glimpse into drifting’s future in the U.S. The Americanization of the sport has led to a high population of American made V8 powered muscle cars.
Millen’s unprecedented attempt at backflipping a 2800 pound desert racing truck on New Year’s Eve captivated a national television audience. He completed the flip, landing the truck on its wheels. But it twisted in the air causing the truck to flop onto its side on the landing ramp, a disappointment for Millen, but none-the-less thrilling for millions watching on ESPN.
But despite his disappointment, Millen chose that moment to announce to the world that he and his wife, Presley are expecting their first child in 2009.
”I am really pleased to have Rhys as the guest on our debut show,” said Gary Keith, the show’s producer and host. “Rhys is an extraordinary personality, and his high profile background and experience in drifting, combined with his recent victory at the Red Bull World Championship of Drift made Rhys Millen the obvious choice to kick off The Inside Drift.
