  • Drift tech 101 1/20-1/21 at Thunderhill (Norcal)

Okay drifterinos... Here's the latest on Drift-Tech 101.
Next events are scheduled for 1/20-1/21. Hopefully we will announce the next date at this upcoming event.

Entry fee is $110, at the track... or $100 with pre-registration. Each participant is allowed 1 free spectator. This spectator will be allowed to ride along as passenger throughout the day. There will be no more rides for non-driver-affiliated spectators, our insurance won't permit it. Spectator entry is $5

Cars will have to pass a tech inspection. See www.myspace.com/drift_tech_101 for a tech-list. Please make sure your car will pass tech before you get to the track... we know you guys are driving from far away, and we'd hate to have to turn you back.

Only RWD cars are allowed (welded or limited-slip diff is also required)

Spectator parking is usually in the dirt near the drift-pad, but if it rains at all... spectator/tow rig parking will be south of the main gate, in between the north and south gates to the park.

Due to the tragic mis-behavior by some non-participants last event... we will have to take lic plate #'s for everyone who attends (especially including spectators). Anyone caught drifting on the Thunderhill paddock, or on 162 in between Thunderhill and I-5 will be DQed from the event, or if a spectator, banned from attending future events.

The event will consist of 4 different course layouts. 2 before lunch, and 2 after lunch. The courses are in freestyle format with numerous cone obstacles which you can negotiate as you like. The "big course" has been eliminated for the time being, as we want to focus on the beginners, and give them the FULL day of track time. Don't worry, you experts will have fun too... plus we'd love you to suggest course layouts.

Runs will be judged, but not in a competetive manner... our aim is to give you suggestions on how to improve your drifting. After all, competition events are judged by people watching, so even if it FEELS like you did a great drift, it may not have been so great looking from the outside. We're here to help you with that, and try to make positive inputs on your repotoir.

Cone Penalties as well as other topics will be discussed at the drivers meeting, but simply put, we don't want you to hit obstacle cones, but its ok if you do.... just try to stop if it gets stuck under your car, we don't want to melt them into little orange balls. VERY IMPORTANT: we will be VERY strict on hitting the course boundary cones on the grid-side and the fence-side. If anyone were to go too far past these boundary cones, someone could be seriously injured, or the fence could be destroyed. In either case, it would be the last event we ever run at Thunderhill.

Here is a tenative schedule so you can prepare yourself accordingly: PLEASE NOTE: the run-groups will depend on how many participants there are. if there are less that 20, you will be split into 2 groups. if there are more than 20, you will be split into 3 groups to reduce down-time inbetween runs.

7:00-8:00AM Registration and Tech open (show up early! this will have a direct effect on your track time!)

    8:00-8:15AM MANDATORY DRIVERS MEETING

8:30-9:25AM Run group A (Run group B work)

9:30-10:25AM Run group B (Run group A work)

10:30-11:25AM Run group A (Run group B work)

11:30-12:30PM Run group B (Run group A work)

12:30-1:30PM LUNCH (tutorial on performance wheel-alignment theory by Jerry for those interested)

1:30-2:10PM Run group A (Run group B work)

2:15-2:55PM Run group B (Run group A work)

3:00-3:40PM Run group A (Run group B work)

3:45-4:30PM Run group B (Run group A work)

We are switching to 2 min runs all day, so BE SURE TO BRING PLENTY OF TIRES, YOU WILL GO THROUGH THEM!!! this is WAY more track time than before. Also, this schedule is tenative and is subject to change, but we will be going along as close as possible. Your quickness to occupy your flagging positions, and to get to your cars when its time to run will decide how much time you get... if everything goes smoothly... you should each be able to fit at least 2 runs per group (which would total up to being around 32 minutes of on-track time, if you consider that there are two 2-minute courses per run)
