about steering

I was wondering about these areas in steering for a while now.

First, What excactly does it mean to have a high steering ratio? does it mean that you have to turn the the steering wheel for the front wheels to get into an angle?

Second, what does tight steering mean? does it mean you can make an U-turn with less steerage of the steer wheel, or is it another way of saying, non-powersteering.

any comments are appreciated.

I think you have a bunch of terms jumbled into one question. "Tight" steering can be described as precise steering, or sensitive steering, or a tight turning radius. It all really depends on the context of the words. Usually, "tight" steering means less turns of the wheel to get the front wheels to full lock, which is the case with cars with power steering. In some cases with manual steering, the wheel has to be turned more times, because there is no hydraulic aid, and therefore, much of the work is converted to more steering wheel rotations to make it easier on the driver's arms.
