how do i hook up a a/f gauge in a 240sx? PLEASE HELP!!!

hey people i have a quick question. has anyone ever hooked up an air/fuel ratio gauge in a 89 240 sx with a ka24e? i tried hooking up my autometer c2 a/f and the gauge lighting works but i cant get a signal for the meter from the o2 sensor . i replaced the 02 and still get no signal . so the question is where do i hook up the signal wire to the o2 or to the ecu? and where? also is the air fuel supposed to read all the time or only when the exhaust is hot? any answers are appreciated. thanks stay sideways!

if it's a digital gauge it will sweep back and forth at idle, full rich during accel and full lean during decelleration. they are actually made to be much more precise on carb engines. as far as the hookup you have it right. this article should help with the install and function.
