Talking T25 Turbo Lifespan? SR20det...

When can you tell when a turbo on the motor is not functioning normal anymore? Can the motor still function? I think my turbo went out of whack on my Sr20det redtop. At first people said it was the head gasket, but I don't think it is. I think it's the turbo... I think the turbo has like at 50 to 70k miles on it (drivin kinda hard sometimes). I haven't checked on it yet. Please help. thanks

I haven't had one fail on me before, but I believe the most common failure mode is the oil seals leaking which you should be able to see with a lot of bluish smoke from the exhaust. The motor will still function with a bad turbo, if the turbo is damaged badly enough it won't boost much or at all. Loud strange noises from the turbo usually mean bad things also..
