240sx

hi im thinking about buying a 89-94 nissan 240sx. i was wondering if anyone knows what all i would need to do either a RB20DEt, RB25DET, or RB26DETT swap? cause the power from the base engine just isnt enough.

you need a lot of parts.

however, saying that the base engine is not enough makes you an IDIOT.

how u bout to say that. The ka24e only makes 140HP and the ka24de only makes 155HP it would take a whole *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored* load of money to put more power into the ka24's.

if you're drifting either KA24 will make enough power

but for a motor swap if you want to go faster, I'd recommend an SR over an RB

Ok, Before buying an Altezza, I owned two 240sxs, a hatchback and a coupe, both with a ka24de. The hatch had straight headers, hollowed out cat, and a straight pipe exhaust; the second had a Tony Danza(findanza??) flywheel and exedy clutch, K&N filter, removed rev limiter and smog pump and they both moved. The Flywheel really helps the KA.

The KA24de makes enough power to do anything. Now, I am driving an Altezza with an LSD. After playing around with it for a few months now, it makes me think all the my 240sx was missing was an LSD and maybe Teins or KYBS to make REALLY fun. The car is amazing. I rather have my old 240sx coupe in Japan than my Altezza... this thing EATS gas... I miss my Smokey, smelling Ka....

I'd try focusing on just finding a good 240sx coupe or hatch and if anything in the future, rebuild the ka.

Boring pile of scrap metal?!?!? you make me sad Mister Frost...

As for you Antwon, You need to learn how to walk before you can run. In my opinion, learn as much as you can with less HP before you upgrade. Pour that money into a good LSD and coilovers. Don't EVER underestimate a KA engine... If you're new at the sport, any engine is too much power for you because you still have no idea how to handle it.

thats my opinion... and so is this

KA24DE(T) > SR20det

^ Agreed. The car can produce equal BHP numbers with much higher torque numbers with about the same amount of money that it takes to drop in the SR.

My advice to you, start stock and learn everything you can about the car and then go from there.

IMO the SR is popular for the same reason the rolling stones are popular, because it's what everyone else is doing. The KA is a strong engine. Either way, no matter what you do, KA, SR, RB or CA, you're using an engine that's more than likely over 10 years old and will need some work anyways. Besides, KA's are friggin cheap these days with everyone changing them out for the SR's. I got a 40k mile engine for just under $800 and runs brilliant.

And FYI, don't even consiter the RB26DETT swap. Not only are you looking at massive fabrication and electrical work, but unless you customise a 5 speed bellhousing for the engine, you'll have to beat out your tranny well to make the 6 speed work. If you're really curious about a RB swap, go to 240sxforums and find a member by the name of chukiRB. He's experienced with the swap and could give you some heads up. If he asks who you are, tell him eomund refered you to him.

You are going at this @$$ backwards imho...

My suggestions:
- Go to local drift event.
- Go a second time and volunteer to help the folks who put it on.
- Befriend people who drive different platforms and seek their input.
- Focus on car that is affordable and will offer a good starting platform, stock
- Slowly modify as your skills out drive the car...

I am gonna tell Whiskey what you said!

As far as I am concerned - antwon - if you can't drift a stock motor you'll just crash with more hp. Work on your talent/power ratio.

We will see. We will see.

You can drift in China? It is part of the Olympics?

I don't think my wife would be happy about that.

hell yeah you can drift in China. I am currently competing in the Asian Pacific Drift Open, they have events in Shanghai, Zhuhai, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, and Korea next year. I have an event in Shanghai on the 28th of September!

You can buy LHD cefiro in china for about 5k usd. Of course you need to swap out the engine because they come with a whacko RB24 NA motor. It might make 150ps on a good day, but other than that it is a Ceffy. S chassis are like gold out here a good LHD S13 will fetch around 8-10k usd.

And then theres the other things about China that are soo good - like two 22oz tsingtao beers for under a dollar! ( In Beijing...in Shanghai things are a little more expensive.)

If your just starting out, dont buy into the illusion that you MUST HAVE AN SR,OR RB TO DRIFT. The ka is a great little engine, I had an s13 with an intake, headers, exhuast, lsd, and coilovers and i was sliding fine. You dont need a 2000rwhp Skyline to drift. Take your time with the power you got, after all you dont wanna wreck your 240, it aint fun......I know

Wow... Japan cost sooo much.... *sigh* I haven't been to the local drift track to re-start practicing since I'm teaching English(ESL teacher=very low pay) and my why doesn't like a noisey muffler....

Yes indeed that is the series I am currently involved in. It is officially called : "Asian Pacific Drift Open". There are many drivers in the series including some guys from Japan like A. Kuroi, M. Suenaga, and M. Kawabata competing in the series. There are also guys from New Zealand, and all the participating countries as well. I am currently the only American to enter the events.
