cefiro questions

i been thinking about converting a maxima to rwd via a cefiro drivetrain im still going to use a vg30 but it will be a 300zxtt engine has anyone done this i have a shop i can use to do this so the lift and torches and tools are there. also does anyone think it would be posssible to use a skyline front clip to awd the maxima? i mean i like the car and dont wanna screw it up, since it drives really nice for a daily driver but its just a day dream project

Oooooh that sounds cool. Tell me how much did the Maxima and cefiro have in common? if there the same body then why not look for a wrcked Cefiro and have it shipped out. Then get to torching.

But i've leave it as RWD and make a unique drift project.

well they are the same car but the cefiro is rwd its the jdm maxima i think but this max im getting doesnt handle like a fwd though the guy put a really big sway bar on the back and front and rear strut tower bars its really rigid and only like 75,000 miles too for 1300 bucks i might get it this week if i can

There is supposedly some guy who has a VG30DETT and RWD Max, but I haven't seen it - try searching google or cardomain.

I've heard, but not seen, that there was a year range in the early 90's that had a VG30 mounted longitudinally with FWD. If this is the case you could build yourself a transmission tunnel and transplant a Z trans, rear end and suspension and you'd be there.

Drivetrain conversions are hard, but not impossible, and require more work and time than money.

Bunch of misinformation on this thread...

The last of the FR Cefiro was the A31 Chassis. That ended in 1993.

In 1994, the A32 chassis was debut. But it became a FF chassis. This was sold in the US as the Maxima in 1995. It was still call a Nissan Cefiro in Japan, but only in name.

What makes it confusing is that around the time of the A31 Cefiro, US has it's 3rd generation Maxima. The chassis code is actually J30 believe or not. (Nothing to do with the Infiniti J30 which uses the Y32 chassis).

So, basically, the Cefiro got axed. Turned into a FF passenger car.

So, to answer your question, no.

But if you really want a FR Maxima, get a 1984... These are L25 powered FR Maxima. There are plenty of power stuff for the L-series engine. Heck, with the right resources, you can even drop in the RB26DETT. There's plenty of room.

And for the record, there are no longitude mounted engine in any Maxima after 1985. All are FF configuration.

Yes thank you 97.. this forum needs more guys who know. I mean we all have specalties. im good at S13 info for example. Crazy hawaiian can tell you all about camaros and such. But we dont have many people with information on more obscure chassis and such. Your input is very much welcomed.

Thanks for the clearing up of all that - I knew it was something-4... Are the mounts with the L25 interchangable with any other motors? Maybe the VG or CA (thinking of the CA-powered S12)?

there was a ca power s12 with a ca18et yep single cam

and your right you cant make a fwd rear wheel drive easily
