RX7 stuff.

I found two RX-7s and i dont know about rotary engines. are there any things i should be paying attention to? i might take a crappy low quality digital camera to take pics or something. any expensive repairs that are common to RX-7s .

I have heard something about "flooding" which seems to be a common problem for RX-7s. Might want research it.

EDIT:
Found something on flooding:
http://www.rx7.com/techarticles_unfloodFC.html
You still might want to research it more

The biggest thing to remember about the 7s is that they use a density sensor instead of a MAF so if you are going to make a dyno queen, make sure you budget in an upgrade to the fuel system or you are going to have a really bad air/fuel ratio problem and that equals killing your engine.

do things right build it tuff the first time and you wount have any probs, rotarys can last just as well as piston motors you just have to know how to look after them. its not like its hard, and they are easy to re-build far fewer moving parts than the old pistons

but im bias.

oh yeah one of the first mods i would to is a aftermarket computer, im running a microtech, but haltec's are also proven with rotaries or if the budget allows it go a motec

about that flooding thing the problem is the car does not get up to operating tempature and thats it? could that problem be solved simply by just heating up with a couple of revs?

yeah i need to find someone who can work with rotary engines. too bad RX-7 and 8 are the only cars that use rotary engines that i can think of.

It depends on the application. The 13B-REW TT set up will prolly only last about 110k at max and that is with pampering. A hard driven FD will last around 60-80k. Mine is in the shop for its first rebuild as we speak and it is at 81k. Best things to do are cooling and air flow to make it last longer. And if you rebuild, get the 3mm apex seals. IMO

I dont know anything about michigan. Thank god I have a great shop down here www.rp-performance.com . They have her right now doing some work. It kind of gives you some relief when you go in and there are 6 FDs and numerous FCs around from all over.

yeah i only know of 4 RX-7s. i read that whole thing about buying an FC and i plan on asking the people about everything and hopefully i will be able to confuse them so much that they will lower the price a ton.

I feel you pain, and always look in the boonies. That is where I got the FD. It saved me around 5-6k by driving 2 hours out into the middle of nowhere

yeah yeah, your forgot the RX-3....but thats not the point, its just that no other company produces them, and they arent mass production. So, joe schmo mechanic has no idea how to work on them unless he wants to specialize.

why would they have to disgrace the skyline like that. i am not saying the RX-8 sucks, its just that they are on different levels. like comparing a festiva to a supra. one is economy and one is just great. but would revving the engine till it heats up solve the flooding problem?
