With just a 350 a supra wont pop a wheely.... you need to do some mods to the back suspension and set up like a 4+ link suspension. And i also wouldnt give up a turbo supra motor for a 350. I would just replace the tranny and keep the turbo. And i hear the supra engines run really strong anyway and theyll last you longer then the supra if you take car of them.

FYI if you're talking about a 80's monte SS they only had 305's which is a garbage poopy motor. but thats besides the point. my best advise to you is to check out http://hybridz.org and http://jagsthatrun.com hybrid Z is all about putting small blocks into datsuns (but 99% of the information would apply to you) and JTR makes alot of custom mount kits for V8s into oddball cars. a small block supra would be AWESOME. and CHEAP horsepower. chevy parts are also like a million times cheaper than import parts. IE. a waterpump for a SBC is only $18.99 and plug wires are $14.99. being a FORD man myself i'd say go with a 302 since they weigh less and make more power/power potential. but a chevy 350 is an AWESOME motor capable of very high mileage and very high HP numbers. oh and don't think you can't turbo a V8 because they FLY with turbos. muscle mustangs & fast fords did a small block ford build up with a turbo and it made 1000 hp with a carburetor. cheap parts, easy to work on, VERY reliable, HUGE aftermarket. no other engine has more aftermarket support then a chevy 350. just pick up a summit racing catalog. 80% of the parts are for a chevy. the only junky chevy part is their rear ends. for that get a mustang rear end..... super strong. 8.8 or a 9". 99+ cobras have independent rear end 8.8" with good gear ratios too.... i say DO IT!!!!

Good move

Since you said that 2Jz is not running I would definatly go with a V-8 conversion. The Chevy 350 motor can make much more power then a 302 Ford, although the ford is lighter if your going big mine as well not worry about the weight too much. Chevy 350's are very reliable parts are cheap, the install with cost you time and money, but the mantenance is cheap and easy... well maybe not when the motor is stuffed in a little bay. I dont know how easy its going to be to access the spark plugs, I never messed with a supra. Turbo charging a 350 in a supra would be too much fun, maybe not for the passenger they would be crapping their pants. It wouldnt be very streetable turbo charged either. I say do it, but maybe see if you can squeeze a T-56 in there instead of the auto tranny. I would love to see pictures of it when you finish it.

First off, its a 1jz. If you replaced a v8 for a 2jz motor id slap you silly. Second off, this is drifting. The supra 1jz is like half the weight of a 302, 305, and like a third of the weight of a 350. For drifting you want balance, not so much power thatll make you spin every turn. Those supras arent that heavy and have good weight distribution. It can create much more net horsepower and a ton more horsepower/liter.

Isn't the Mk3 Supra turbo engine a 7MGTE?

im more into the old domestic cars myself i think you should go with an all aluminum 350 with a muncie M-22 tranny because it is a leightweight motor and will make good power the tranny has straight cut gears is a littel loud but it will last forever

What, like an LT1? I know that most (older) sbc's were iron and the rare aluminum ones are expensive as hell. I'd say go with an LT1/T56 combination out of a 4th-gen F-body if you're really intent on doing a small block swap.

Now that I think about, I recall seeing a Mk3 Supra powered by an LT1 on the internet awhile ago... have no idea what the site was though.

edit: after digging through some old bookmarks, I found it! It turns out it wasn't an LT1, but it is twin-turbocharged... check it out: www.sdsefi.com/features/dec00supra.htm

i guess an f-body lt1 or ls1 with a tremec would work but unless u know people your not gonna pick it up for less than 6-9 grand
and i was thinking along the lines of a aluminum 350 out of jegs for 2500-3000 and an M-22 from ebay for 2000
