Wet engine

So i just got my 240sx home and the motor is filthy. Because i'm really not in the mood to pull the motor right now to clean it, a bit cold out. Would it hurt anything if i sprayed down the engine with simple green and hosed it off? If this is dumb i'm sorry.

cover the air intake, batery, ecu, any other electrical stuff to be on the safe side. Intake is the main priority, you dont want to have to tell the mechanic you waterlocked your engine by washing it.
